Hedonophobia: This is an unusual and intense fear of experiencing pleasure. Individuals who suffer from this phobia often feel guilty about enjoying pleasurable activities, even though they intellectually understand that there's no harm in doing so. Their guilt often stems from the awareness that while they are indulging in pleasure, many others are suffering from illness, financial difficulties, and other hardships. Additionally, they might believe that the best way to live is through self-denial, akin to the notion that for a remedy to be effective, it must be unpleasant. The term "hedonophobia" comes from the Greek words "hedone" (meaning pleasure or delight) and "phobos" (meaning fear). Other terms related to "hedone" include "hedonism," a philosophy that prioritizes pleasure as the primary goal of life, and "hedonist," a person who seeks pleasure.
